Considering A Dental Implant?

If you have missing teeth, a dental implant can be one of the most cost-effective treatments. An implant can fully restore the aesthetic look and function of a missing tooth for not too steep of a cost. Implants are also the only restorative treatment that help to preserve the natural bone of your jaw. Restore your smile today with an affordable dental implant from Carson & Carson, DDS in Oxnard, California.

Average Cost of A Dental Implant in Ventura County

A dental implant can cost upwards of $1,000 in the Ventura County area. Beware of cheap implants. A higher quality dental implant can cost you close to $3,000 but is often much more durable than an implant made of cheaper materials. This price for a dental implant is all inclusive and covers the cost of the implant itself, the abutment to attach the crown to, the dental crown that fits onto the implant abutment, and the cost of labor to produce and install the implant. There might be extra costs involved in getting a dental implant if additional treatment is required first such as a root canal or tooth extraction.

Factors Affecting the Longevity of A Dental Implant

Dental Implants can last a lifetime when cared for properly. Some lifestyle choices and medical conditions can make a dental implant more likely to fail during your lifetime. Some of these factors include:

Smoking: Smokers suffer from a decreased ability to fight off dental infections, and will have a rough time keeping a dental implant for life without giving up the habit. Smoking decreases the ability for your gums to receive the proper nutrients needed to produce antibodies and properly fight bacteria.

Diabetes: Similar to smokers but without a choice in the matter, the gums of diabetics are less able to repair themselves and are less capable of fighting off dental infections. Good oral hygiene habits will always help a diabetic lengthen the lifetime of their dental implants.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease: An improper oral hygiene routine can lead you quickly into periodontal disease problems. These issues affect the gums in areas surrounding teeth and implants alike, causing cavities and tooth decay of exposed roots or causing the gums around an implant to recede and reduce its ability to stay in place or a lifetime.

Radiation to the mouth, head, or neck: Those who are receiving radiation treatment to the head, neck, or mouth will have trouble keeping a dental implant for life. Radiation can drastically affect the ability of the gums to heal properly causing the loss of teeth and implants over time.

3 Parts of A Dental Implant

3 different parts of a dental implant: Implant, Abutment, & Crown. Find affordable dental implants at Carson & Carson, DDS in Oxnard, Calfornia.A dental implant itself is only the screw that provides the anchor for the crown to be placed upon, it is not an entire replacement by itself. The 3 parts that comprise a working dental implant are:

Implant: A titanium screw that acts as the replacement for the root of the tooth. The implant is inserted into the gums where a tooth is missing, the bone fuses with the implant creating a solid support, and then an abutment and crown can be placed over the implant completing the procedure.

Abutment: Connecting piece between the implant and the crown. Abutments are usually composed of titanium, but can also be made of a ceramic material. Once the implant is in place in the gums, the abutment can be firmly attached to it.

Crown: The final attachment in a dental implant. The crown is attached to the abutment after both the implant and abutment are firmly in place. We produce our Crowns, Dentures, and Veneers on site in our laboratory in just minutes at Carson & Carson, DDS.

I have had a lot of procedures including 8 implants. There is no better dentist office than Carson and Carson. Dr. Derek Carson (the son of Dr. Leroy Carson) is FANTASTIC! He has learned well from his father (who still works there). Papa is the MAN!, and has been for years. Insane amount of knowledge. The Doctors are THE BEST! The support staff is fun and professional always. I will never go anywhere else.

Excellent service. Dr. Derek was the only emergency oral surgeon to respond, everything was done so fast and without pain. Highly recommended, Carmen is his amazing front office manager, she is highly professional and knowledgeable. I had very painful broken wisdom tooth removed. I can honestly say I have waited longer at the Starbucks Drive thru. Thank you!!!
